What We Do

Four ways we get called out.

Whether it's a rattlesnake on a set, a snake under a homeowner's deck, or a room full of kids who want to meet one safely — the job is the same: control the animal, control the environment, and make sure nobody gets hurt.

Service 01 · Production

Wranglers on set, start to wrap.

You're shooting in the chaparral in July, and the location came with residents. A rattlesnake in base camp stops production cold — and the person who finds it is usually the least equipped to deal with it.

We sweep the location before call time, stay on site while you shoot, and handle anything that turns up. We don't supply animals for camera; we deal with the wild ones already there.

  • Location sweep before call time — base camp, holding, and every setup
  • Standby wrangler on site for the duration of the shoot
  • Immediate removal if a snake appears, without stopping the day
  • Talent and crew safety briefing before the first setup
  • Re-sweeps between company moves and new setups
  • Desert, brush-country, and ranch locations throughout the area

Service 02 · Events

A wrangler on site, so nothing happens.

Outdoor weddings, ranch venues, company picnics — anywhere guests are on snake country in warm weather. We sweep the grounds before anyone arrives and stay through the event. If a snake turns up, it's handled quietly, before most of your guests know there was one.

  • Full grounds sweep before guests arrive — parking, paths, seating, perimeter
  • Wrangler stays on site for the duration of the event
  • Immediate, discreet removal if a snake appears
  • A quiet word with your venue or event staff on what to watch for
  • No show, no presentation — the goal is that nothing happens

Service 03 · Removal

Don't handle it yourself. Call us — it's free.

Inside Santa Clarita, rattlesnake removal is free — always. Cary Quashen Rattlesnake Wrangling takes these calls for our neighbors at no charge. It isn't a paid service and we don't quote it: there's no fee, no trip charge, and no catch. If there's a rattlesnake on your property, call.

A large share of rattlesnake bites happen to people who decided to deal with the snake on their own. A shovel puts your hand inside striking range, and a wounded rattlesnake is far harder to control than a calm one.

Keep pets and children inside, keep eyes on where the snake is from a safe distance, and call. We catch it live with the proper tools and relocate it away from your property.

  • Free within Santa Clarita — through Cary Quashen Rattlesnake Wrangling
  • Live capture and relocation — homes, ranches, barns, and jobsites
  • Proper catch poles and containment, not improvised tools
  • We check the surrounding area for others before we leave
  • Species identification so you know what you were actually dealing with
  • Straightforward advice on what drew it in and how to keep it from happening again

Service 04 · Prevention

Find out why they keep coming back.

If you're seeing snakes repeatedly, something on the property is holding them there — usually rodents, water, or cover. Removing one snake fixes today. Removing the reason fixes the season.

We walk the whole property with you, point out what we find, and leave you with a written plan you can hand to a landscaper or contractor.

  • Full walk-through of structures, yard, outbuildings, and perimeter
  • Harborage identification — woodpiles, rock walls, debris, dense ground cover
  • Rodent-pressure assessment, since prey is what brings snakes in
  • Entry points into garages, crawlspaces, and under decks
  • Written findings with prioritized fixes and fencing guidance

Rattlesnake Removal

Free

Inside Santa Clarita, through Cary Quashen Rattlesnake Wrangling

  • Live capture and safe relocation
  • We check the area for others before leaving
  • Santa Clarita only — not offered as a paid service

Property Sweep

$350

Full walk-through plus a written plan, about 90 minutes

Paid work — production, events, and property consulting — runs on a $250 call-out plus $100 per hour on site, and the prices above are that math worked out ahead of time. Rattlesnake removal is not part of it: that's a free community service inside Santa Clarita, not something we sell. Rates are for a single wrangler; holidays and jobs needing additional handlers are quoted individually.

Who Shows Up

The people who handle the animals.

Wrangling on this side of the operation runs through Cary Quashen Rattlesnake Wrangling, whose decades of hands-on experience with venomous snakes across Santa Clarita and the surrounding canyons back every job we take on.

Scott Quashen handles training and directs the program, with five years handling venomous snakes alongside Cary on the wrangling team. Between the two operations, catching and containing rattlesnakes safely is simply what we do every week.

Same people, same equipment, same standard of care whether the job is a film location, a wedding venue, or a snake under someone's porch.

Questions

Before you call.

How far do you travel?

Production, event, and property work runs throughout greater Los Angeles, Acton, the Antelope Valley, and the surrounding canyons — generally within 100 miles. Rattlesnake removal is different: we offer it free inside Santa Clarita only, and we don't take it on as a paid service anywhere. If you're outside the area, call anyway and we'll point you toward someone who can help.

Is rattlesnake removal really free?

Yes — no fee, no trip charge, no catch. Cary Quashen Rattlesnake Wrangling provides removal to the Santa Clarita community at no cost. We don't charge for removal at all — it's a free service for our neighbors, not a paid one. Outside Santa Clarita, call anyway and we'll help you find someone.

How fast can you get to a snake at my house?

It depends where you are and what else is on the schedule that day, but removal calls are treated as urgent and we'll tell you an honest arrival window when you call. In the meantime: keep pets and kids indoors, watch the snake from a safe distance, and don't try to move it yourself.

Do you bring snakes to events or supply them for filming?

No. We're a wrangling service, not an animal supplier or an exhibitor — we handle the wild snakes already on your location, and we don't bring animals to shows, parties, or sets. The only place we work with live rattlesnakes is our own rattlesnake avoidance training for dogs, on our own ranch.

We're having an outdoor event — do we need a wrangler on site?

If you're hosting guests on open ground in warm weather — a ranch venue, a hillside property, a campground — it's worth considering. A standby wrangler sweeps the grounds before guests arrive and stays through the event, so a snake gets handled quietly instead of becoming the thing everyone remembers. Tell us the venue and the guest count and we'll tell you honestly whether we think you need one.

What do you need from a production?

Shooting dates, the location, and your call and wrap times. We'll sweep before call and stay as long as you're shooting. If the location is somewhere we haven't worked, more lead time lets us walk it in advance. We brief cast and crew before the first setup.

What happens to a snake after you remove it?

It's relocated alive to appropriate habitat away from your property. We don't kill snakes on removal calls — a live rattlesnake moved off your land is a better outcome for you and for the animal.

Can you also train my dog to avoid rattlesnakes?

That's the other half of what we do. The Snake School runs a 12-station rattlesnake avoidance course for dogs — see the training program or book a session.
